POSITION: Research Technician – Seed Physiology Lab
Located in Salinas, California.Responsibilities include coordinating routine seed vigor and useable plug testing program for vegetable and flower seed. Plans and coordinates scheduling and timely completion of tests, including data entry in database system. Assists the Seed Physiologist in research and development projects relating to diverse Seed Physiology areas such as dormancy, storability, and seed development and maturation. . Will also collaborate with Seed Physiologist in developing new vigor and useable plug testing protocols. . Also oversees production of transplants for genetic purity growout testing. Oversees operation and maintenance of lab equipment, growth rooms, greenhouses and support facilities. Must be available some weekends and holidays to maintain plant growth in greenhouses.
BS degree in Biology, Horticulture, or a related field; or AA degree plus several years of experience with transplant or plug raising. Job-specific training provided. Must have excellent attention to detail, manual dexterity, visual acuity, and basic mathematical aptitude. Candidates with exceptional basic skills but lacking a degree may be considered. Bilingual (English and Spanish) desired. Possessing pesticide applicator’s license a plus.
